5. Practical advises
Here is a map of the camping site. The areas where tents and trailers can be set up are identified. No prepared places exist, on purpose : Everybody should feel free to occupy any available free space, as long as he doesnt make a nuisance of himself or block the access ways.
5.1. Power supply
220 V 50 Hz. Warning : The plug system is the French one. Nothing fits on that directly, therefore you should bring your own adapters.
Power is distributed on two points. The first one is located right behind the Barn with eight connections, the second one right of the workshops door with eight connectors. From there on you can multiply the number of derivations. Every single connection is fused with 10 A. If all camping sites guests have a reasonable power consumption, no overcharge of the installation is expected.
We highly recommend to bring a large supply of cable reels and extenders of all kinds in sufficient quantity
5.2. Water supply
The site is supplied by the normal city distribution network and not anymore from a local well as in the past. The water quality is outstanding. It can be used without any restriction.
Warm water is only available in the showers, in the anteroom of the toilets and soon also in the laundry. All wash basins are cold only : Wake-up guaranteed !
Outside of the building, water is supplied in three locations :
5.3. Waste disposal
Waste is collected once a week. That may be sufficient for a single household, but for us its really a problem ! Thats the reason why it is so important that all wastes are disposed of in tightly closed plastic bags. We put these bags at no charge to your disposal. Please use them ! Also store the empty glass or plastic bottles separately to be disposed of in the containers available in la Chapelle Vendomoise or at the Cora Shopping Mall. The collection place is at the entrance of the site, close to the mailboxes.
5.4. The telephone
A telephone is installed in the farmhouse, the number of which is : 02 54 20 87 37. However, this line is restricted to regional calls but can of course be called from the entire world. In order to place an international call from this point, you must be holder of the FRANCE TELECOM card. Normally you will not be able to obtain such a card in France, but only from your national telephone operator at home if he has a rooming agreement with the French National Telephone Company. Obtaining this card may take up to three months. Once you have it, all the calls are directly invoiced on your home telephone line.
If you have a GSM portable phone, take it with you : The area around the airfield is adequately covered.
Otherwise, telephone booths are available on the club side of the airfield, in La Chapelle-Vendômoise and in Landes le Gaulois. Every cabin has a number, so that you can receive a call there, if you have passed the number to your correspondent and agreed upon a time with him.
5.5. Driving on the airfield
The airfield is a restricted area for vehicles : Only vehicles with a special permit are allowed to enter the restricted area. This is by far not unique : This rule is valid on all French airfields. Quite often it is just ignored for practical reasons. However the consequences of an accident under those circumstances could be so disastrous both in terms of legal punishment and in terms of liability, that we have decided to apply for the necessary permits in the name of our guests. This is the reason why we need a number of information on your vehicle quite a long time before your arrival on site.
Even with a permit, the highest precept is : Open your eyes, to the left, to the right, upwards, and NO SPEED. Highest caution is required around the camping site : The children jumping towards your wheels could be Yours !
5.6. Medical Assistance
Nearest Doctor and pharmacy are in La Chapelle-Vendômoise
5.7 Mail
Mail is distributed every day at the farmhouse. Mail offices are located in La Chapelle-Vendômoise, behind the church, and in Landes le Gaulois on the main square, just beside the grocery store.
5.8. Cash dispensers, payments
The nearest cash dispenser is located in the "Cora" shopping center and in Herbault, next to the City Hall, at the "Credit Agricole" bank. It takes Eurocheques and Visa cards with code number.
French people pay almost everything with drafts or with the Visa card (They call it "la carte bleue", the blue card). Eurocheques are known only in banks, where you can cash them, however it is probable that most shops will not accept them either because they just dont know them or because they know them too well : The fees charged by the French banks for paying Eurocheques are horrendously high.
5.9. The weather forecast
Meteo France issues a soaring weather forecast every morning at 10.00 local time (Unfortunately, this is a bit late) on the minitel. The local flying club prints and displays this forecast in his office. The forecast is in two parts : North and South of the Loire river. The quality is usually quite good and reliable.
In August, this forecast is also printed and displayed in the farmhouse of Villeroux, together with the 08.00 local time satellite infrared picture, which we pick-up on the Internet thanks to a portable computer.
5.10 The Wireless Internet Access
The farmhouse is connected to the Internet and a wireless network is available inside the community room and in certain places on the camping site.
